Adults (18+) who are Sedentary

County: Allegheny
Measurement Period: 2022
This indicator shows the percentage of adults (ages 18 and up) who reported no leisure-time physical activity in the past month, not including exercise done at work.

Why is this important?

More and more individuals are living sedentary lifestyles due to lack of exercise spaces, stationary work environments, and increased media consumption. Sedentary behaviors have a wide array of health effects, including an increase in all-cause mortality, diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease, and arthritis. ACHD is working to promote health insurer and employer-based wellness programs, including those that support healthy diets and physical activity.
The Healthy People 2030 national health target is to reduce the proportion of adults who do no physical activity in their free time to 21.8 percent.
