Premature Death Rate

County: Allegheny
Measurement Period: 2018-2020
This indicator measures the age-adjusted number of deaths per 100,000 residents less than 75 years of age. Deaths are counted in the county in which the individual lived, not where the death occurred. Data was provided by the National Center for Health Statistics and drawn from the National Vital Statistics System.

Why is this important?

Age-adjusted premature death, or mortality, rates are important and common measures for comparing the health of populations. Rates are age-adjusted in order to fairly compare Allegheny County with other geographies and to account for the fact that poor health outcomes increase with age.
