Annual Average PM2.5 Concentration

Measurement Period: 2022
Fine particulate matter (PM2.5) consists of a mixture of solids and liquid droplets so small they are only visible with an electron microscope. These particles can be inhaled and may contain hundreds of different chemicals - some are released into the air directly, while others form when they react with other pollutants in the atmosphere.
Children, older adults, and people with chronic conditions, such as asthma, lung disease, or heart disease, are particularly susceptible to the effects of fine particulate matter.

Why is this important?

The concentration of PM2.5 in the atmosphere is an important measure of air quality. Tracking air quality is crucial to ensuring sensitive populations can take adequate measures to protect their health.
