Favorable Attitudes Toward Antisocial Behavior

State: Pennsylvania
Measurement Period: 2023
This indicator shows the percentage of 6th, 8th, 10th, and 12th grade students at risk for engaging in problem behaviors due to individual and/or peer attitudes favorable toward antisocial behavior on a 100 point scale.

Why is this important?

Antisocial behaviors are behaviors that run counter to established norms of good behavior, particularly in relation to violence, crime, and drug use. During elementary school years, children usually express anticrime and prosocial attitudes and have difficulty imagining why people commit crimes or drop out of school. However, in middle school, as others they know participate in such activities, their attitudes often shift toward greater acceptance of these behaviors. Individuals who express favorable attitudes toward antisocial behavior are more likely to engage in this and other problem behaviors, such as drug use.
